Sometimes, mistakes happen. If you don’t have enough in your account to cover a check, debit card transaction, automatic payment, or ATM withdrawal, we offer three convenient options to help prevent your checking account from being overdrawn.


If you are going out of town and plan on using your TEGFCU Debit or Credit card, just log in to Digital Banking, go to card management to set up travel notices for each of your cards or contact the Solution Center at 845.452.7323 so we know you are making those out-of-town transactions.

What is TEGFCU’s Routing Number?

TEGFCU’s routing number is 221975956. 

How old do you have to be to open a checking account?

You must be 18 years old to open a checking account unless someone over the age of 18 is also a joint holder on the account. Minors can have their own individual savings (share) account.

What documents do I need to open a checking account?

You will need your social security card and an unexpired government-issued photo ID evidencing citizenship or residence (examples include a driver’s license, military ID, or passport).

Non-US citizens need one or more of the following:

  • IRS Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) · Passport number and country of issuance
  • Alien Identification Card number · Number and country of issuance of any other government-issued document evidencing nationality or residence and bearing a photograph or similar safeguard.
